Who are you?
My name is Laura Morris and my shop is called Unique Shells.
Where are you located?
I am located in Raleigh, NC, more specifically, North Raleigh.
What do you create?
I make ornaments out of seashells.
What is your favorite place to visit in the "triangle"?
I can’t say that I really have a favorite place that I visit on a regular basis, unless you count the grocery store, not really a favorite of mine. But, I would say that my family and I enjoy the local parks where we can go fishing and walking and in the summer we do like to go to the rodeo every Tuesday. I think that would be my most favorite place to go. It is very relaxing and very affordable with two kids.
When did you start creating?
I have always been a crafty person from a young age, around 10 or so. I started creating things with seashells when I would go with my mother to a quilting bee and one of the older ladies made pictures out of seashells and she taught me how to make flowers and other items. I had gotten into other crafting over the years and in my later adult years went back to making things with seashells. I really enjoy coming up with new creations.
What is your next project going to be?
I am currently working on several new ideas. They include: biker, ballerina, doctor, marine, and owls. I am also going to start trying to create more seasonal items for Easter and Halloween.
Where do you create?
I have my workspace set up in my basement. It gets a little drafty and cold but there is lots of room to spread out. Plus, it is out of the way and I can leave my supplies set up all the time.
What is you most popular item that you create?
I think my current most popular items on Etsy have been my bride and groom ornaments. I think they are popular because they are very unique and the buyer can use them on their Christmas tree or can have them in a keepsake place and it will remind them of a very happy day.
What do you do when you are not creating?
When I am not creating, I am busy with two school age children, 13 and 7. I also look after my elderly in-laws. When I have the time, I enjoy reading, singing, learning how to play the guitar and just being by myself.
