Handmade Happenings, October 1-2, 2011

Autumn is truly upon us, with great events in the Triangle area this weekend! Southern Pines, Chapel Hill and Raleigh each feature festivals for the whole family, and two of our members are taking a trip to a festival in the DC area.  Near or far, we hope you'll come out and say hello!

Autumn Fest - Southern Pines
Presented the 1st Saturday in October, Autumnfest is a small street festival that includes live entertainment, arts & crafts booths, food, 5K road race, rides, and more. Everyone is invited to come early to the picturesque setting of Southern Pines and enjoy this wonderful, small-town festival!

Art on the Avenue Festival - Alexandria, VA
A multi-cultural arts festival celebrating our community’s diversity through the arts in the Del Ray neighborhood in Alexandria, Virginia. This festival is held on the first Saturday in October, rain or shine! More than 300 artists (jewelers – silversmith & beaders, woodworkers, pottery makers, soap crafters, glass makers, unique painters, sculptures, fabric artists), musicians, and food vendors. What: Temple Beth Or Pre-school Holiday Fair
Where: Temple Beth Or is located at 5315 Creedmoor Road just south of the intersection with Millbrook Road. (Directions/Map)
When: Thursday, Nov 12 (8:30am-12:30pm and 6:00--9:00pm) and Friday, Nov 13 (8:30am-12:30pm)

Many vendors will be at the TBO Preschool, each selling unusual, one-of-a-kind products that make great holiday gifts: children’s clothes, toys, soaps, lotions, handbags, jewelry, pottery, girls’ tutus, chocolate truffles, and lots of Chanukah items, etc.

Several NC Triangle Street Team members will be there, including myself and Vicky of Shore Debris.

Holiday Jamboree / Raleigh / November 7, 2009


The Holiday Jamboree will be held on Saturday, November 7, from 4:00PM to 8:00PM at Brier Creek Elementary School.

This year’s event will be a LOT of fun!

Highlights
■A live band, providing a festive atmosphere throughout the entire evening.
■A holiday shopping bazaar, where local vendors will be displaying and selling unique items, as well as a kids holiday shop where the children can purchase special items for their parents or other family members.
■Plenty of food options, as several local restaurants will be on hand to serve up delicious snacks and entrees.
■An exciting raffle with lots of great prizes, including the wonderful "time with teacher" silent auction, a Wii, an iPod, UNC basketball tickets, several gift certificates, and much, MUCH more!

This event is put on by the members of the Raleigh Jewelry Making Meetup Group, and is free to attend.

Come experience a variety of styles and visions expressed in stones, sterling silver, relics, clay, beads and wire. There will be jewelry-making demonstrations throughout the day, and all of our artists will be on hand to answer questions about their work.

Please be prepared to pay cash - each artist is handling her or his own sales, and may not be equipped to accept plastic.

Pittsboro Street Fair / October 24, 2009

The Pittsboro Street Fair will be held on October 24th from 10am to 5pm! It should be bigger and better than ever with the same great music, vendors and crafts as in years past. New this year will be a third stage on the patio of the City Tap Bar, "Sculpture in the Park" Exhibition at the Kiwanis Park, and a Pittsboro Kinetic Sculpture Parade. It will feature mostly Chatham artists with a few invited from surrounding counties who specialize in interactive art for children.
(The rain date is the following day, October 25th.)

Craftland 2009


The Scrap Exchange, an 18 year old creative reuse center, and the North Carolina Triangle Etsy Street Team join together this holiday season to offer “Craftland: Handmade Goods by Local Artists” in the Green Gallery located in the reuse center of The Scrap Exchange. Craftland exists to provide customers and the local community access to sustainable gifts made from repurposed materials. The marketplace is open from October 16th-January 2nd. Items include stuffed animals made from tee-shirts, girl's skirts made from men's work shirts, metal sculptures made from typewriter and sewing machine parts, melted and fused glass items and much more! Many Etsy artists are featured including: ReVamped Creations, Nice Shirt Kid, Lucky Girl Trading, MegRNC, Fandragon, FlowerSoup, Janine Maves, and Donnie Wrights.


A huge thanks goes to Megan (MegRNC), Carolyn (Blue Cuddly), Jill (Orange Cat Art) and Tonya (ReVamped Creations) for all of their hard work in helping organize the 6th Annual Craftland.

Road Trip to Winston-Salem
