Local Featured Seller: LindaSearcyJewelry

Who are you?
Linda Searcy - my Etsy shop name is
Linda Searcy Jewelry Designs

Where are you located?
Cary, NC - I have lived in Raleigh, NC since late 1980 but now call Cary my home for the past 11 years.

What do you create?
Wire wrapped jewelry complemented with semi-precious stones, crystals, and colorful glass beads - rings, pendants, earrings, necklaces, bracelets

What is your favorite place to visit in the "triangle"?
The NC State Farmers Market and various smaller farmers markets - I love to see all the produce and flowers grown locally and being able to talk with the vendors about their products. It is interesting to watch people as they shop the different stalls.

When did you start creating?
I started making jewelry when I took my first class in wire-wrapped rings - it was just an impulse but it re-inforced my love of hand-made creativity. I have always loved working with my hands since I was a little girl - sewing on my mothers sewing machine, learning other crafts such as crocheting, knitting, doing embroidery, cross-stitch, and quilting.

What is your most cherished handmade item?
The re-styled beaded necklace and wire-wrapped pendant I created from my mothers vintage gems.

Why did you choose your medium?
Since I wasn't happy with the final result of my wire-wrapped ring (it was done with craft wire and glass beads), I went home and re- created it with gold-filled wire and Swarovski crystals. I loved the feel of manipulating the various wire types (copper, silver-plate and sterling) and being able to do it with minimal hand tools and my fingers.

What inspires you?
Looking for beautiful and unusually shaped stones and beads and dreaming up different ways to adorn them with wire.

What do you do when you are not creating?
Before I started jewelry making, I loved to travel to exotic locations to collect fabric for quilting - now, I'll need to start looking for found objects for jewelry, right? I truly enjoy a relaxing week at the beach, hearing the waves, being in the sun, catching up on reading and eating fresh seafood.
