What do you create? Creations mostly from LEGO although I also do decoupage, but do not list it online as of yet.
What is your favorite place to visit in the "triangle"? My current favorite place to visit is the Nasher Museum in Durham. It has great shows and is rather small in size. It is so doable as part of an afternoon outing, without getting the 'museum hangover.'

When did you start creating? I started creating with LEGO about 7 years
ago. I used to do a lot of woodworking. I made a lot of decorative
boxes and always worked in a rather small scale. Not so different from
what I do with the LEGO bricks.
What is your most cherished handmade item? I don't really have anything that I cherish, because I want it all to be used in one way or another. However I am most proud of my LEGO Switchplates, because it was an idea that I came up with on my own and no one else is doing them. I think it is really hard to have an original thought, so I'm proud that I came up with one even if they aren't my most favorite item to create.
Why did you choose your medium? I chose the medium of LEGO because I have MS and no longer felt safe working with power tools. I've always been a toy fanatic and collector, so to me LEGO flowed with my creative spirit and practical nature.

Who inspires you? The more I learn of Matise, the more I am
inspired by his work because he didn't just do one thing (paint) he did a
wide variety of other crafts/art. I like variety and I like the idea
of not being constrained by only one medium.

Why did you choose your shop name? I thought for a long time on creating a name, but never (still) have gotten a name I really love. I wanted to make sure it could work for all my design work not just LEGO. I went with Creative Wares by Val because I needed to get business cards printed and got tired of trying to think of something. I now sometimes use CWVDesigns because it is just so much shorter. But I haven't given up completely, I know it will hit me one day and well then I'll worry about getting it officially changed.

What are your goals? To keep learning more about business without having to sacrifice my
creative energy. I would like to get noticed more so that I could do
more complex pieces with greater freedom.
What do you do when you are not creating? When I am not creating, I am working on getting my creations sold and noticed in the world. I never believed it when people would say when you love what you do, you just want to do it all the time. They were right, I'm not always 'productive' but I'm always creating in my mind.
