Happy Fourth!

In the United States, Independence Day, commonly known as the Fourth of July, is a federal holiday commemorating the adoption of the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776, declaring independence from the Kingdom of Great Britain. Independence Day is commonly associated with fireworks, parades, barbecues, carnivals, picnics, baseball games, and various other public and private events celebrating the history, government, and traditions of the United States, but is often also viewed as simply a summer festival, apart from its patriotic overtones.

One of the most ironic pieces of trivia I only recently learned was in regards to former U.S. Presidents, John Adams and Thomas Jefferson. Both men, pioneers in the movement to obtain our independence, died on the exact same day -- July 4, 1826. How crazy is that? I came across it while watching the fabulous HBO series, John Adams, which I hugely recommend for many reasons. It's also a great reminder of the process and sacrifices made by our forefathers to obtain the independence that we celebrate today.

In my search for tidbits to include in today's Etsy finds, I used the words "fireworks" and "firecracker", one of the greatest symbols of this holiday. Enjoy, and have a fantastic weekend!
