Craftland 2009

The Scrap Exchange, an 18 year old creative reuse center, and the North Carolina Triangle Etsy Street Team join together this holiday season to offer “Craftland: Handmade Goods by Local Artists” in the Green Gallery located in the reuse center of The Scrap Exchange. Craftland exists to provide customers and the local community access to sustainable gifts made from repurposed materials. The marketplace is open from October 16th-January 2nd. Items include stuffed animals made from tee-shirts, girl's skirts made from men's work shirts, metal sculptures made from typewriter and sewing machine parts, melted and fused glass items and much more! Many Etsy artists are featured including: ReVamped Creations, Nice Shirt Kid, Lucky Girl Trading, MegRNC, Fandragon, FlowerSoup, Janine Maves, and Donnie Wrights.

A huge thanks goes to Megan (MegRNC), Carolyn (Blue Cuddly), Jill (Orange Cat Art) and Tonya (ReVamped Creations) for all of their hard work in helping organize the 6th Annual Craftland.

Holiday Finds For Dad

From now through the holidays, we here at the NCTriangle Street Team would like to make your holiday shopping a little bit easier. Why drive all the way to the mall and fight the crowds when you can simply relax at your keyboard and let your fingers do the shopping? Over the next couple months we'll bring you some targeted holiday finds from the NCTriangle Street Team. Keep in mind that these are just a snapshot of the many incredible items that the NCTriangle Street Team has. Please feel free to search for more on Etsy, using our tag "nctriangle team."

Today's Holiday Finds are gifts for Dad! Dad can always be a little difficult to shop for, so we thought we'd help you out with these great items.

From karensoaps we have some Crackling Campfire Soap!

There is nothing she loves more than sitting by a nice warm campfire on a cool summer night!

This 4oz soap is made with a gentle vegetable based glycerin soap base. It is scented with a Crackling Campfire fragrance oil, and tinted with a brown sparkle dye. It smells like a mixture of wood and smoke. It would make a great gift for an outdoorsy dad.

Next we have a Quilted Eyeglass or Sunglass Case from megrnc.

No need for your boring, standard eyeglass case from the optometrist.

This one-of-a-kind eyeglass case is made from 100% medium weight cotton fabric that has been pre-washed and dried. The outer fabric is from Amy Butler's Belle Line and it is lined with a matching 1930's reproduction green fabric with white and orange flowers. The top border is solid green.

Because the fabric has been pre-washed and dried, this can be cleaned in your washing machine.

MEASUREMENTS:
6 1/2 inches long
3 3/4 inches wide

FEATURES:
*Machine quilted in green thread, in a random pattern

*All inside raw edges are overcasted to prevent unraveling

OPTIONAL FEATURES:
I will be happy to add a velcro enclosure for an additional $2.

If the fabric isn't manly enough for you, contact megrnc and she'd be happy to work with you.

From jclange we have a unique Custom Photo Collage - Kids.

This listing is for a personalized work of art using a photograph that you supply.

The canvas shown here is an example of her work.

She will use your photo to create a custom-made collage on 1 1/2" thick, finished-edge canvas that will be a one-of-a-kind piece of art and a keepsake ready to hang on your wall.

These unique portraits are a fun variation on traditional family photos and look terrific in any room. They also make a thoughtful gift for grandparents, family members and friends.

Does the dad you are shopping for like photography and appreciate a bit of humor? Here we have a "Brain Repair" photograph from photobox.

This is a 5x7 archive-quality photograph, professionally printed in matte finish with a white border for framing. If you would prefer the image be printed without a border, just let her know during checkout. Copyright will not appear on the image you receive.

This piece comes unframed.

Photobox has many great photos in her shop. If this isn't exactly what you are looking for, take a moment to check out her shop.

And finally, for the sushi-loving dad, we have a set of four vintage Solid Wood Mini Wasabi Bowls from tripletrouble.

These little vintage bowls are the cutest things. They are the perfect size for serving wasabi!

They are miniature bowls measuring approx. 3" in diameter.

With the holidays upon us, she'd be happy to send these to you wrapped with ribbon in a sweet clear cello pouch with a small blank holiday tag. Please request in a comment to buyer at the time of purchase.

Once again, keep in mind that these are just a snapshot of the many incredible items that the NCTriangle Street Team has. Please feel free to search for more on Etsy, using our tag "nctriangle team." Thanks for shopping with the NCTriangle Street Team!

Team Event: Day at The Scrap Exchange

This past Sunday, 9 Triangle Etsy Stores donated their time and crafting skills to a local non profit, creative re-use center, The Scrap Exchange. The crafters got together to create items that The Scrap Exchange could use as displays to give shoppers ideas of what could be made from things found at the store.

It turned out to be quite the challenge, as the crafters were given a list of items that needed to be used:

fabric (no sew projects)
plastic laminate
binders
file folders
vintage spindles
cd jewel cases

Luckily, the crafters were all used to using a variety of mediums and so coming up with ideas and crafting items came pretty easily. After three hours of work, over 20 items were made, complete with instructions and supply lists. Here are some of the items that were made and donated to the store:

"Queen for a day" children's crown

Cork composite (item used, cd jewel case)

A fabric shawl (item used: no-sew fabric)

A spectacular village including houses made from small gift boxes wrapped in office paper, streets made from cork strips , people made from film canasters, plants and even a dog (item used: binder)

Four-sided picture frame (item: cd jewel case)

Necklace or towel holder

Fabric Envelope (item: no-sew fabric)

Hanging Organizer (item: no-sew fabric)

Earring Gauze Organizer (item: no-sew fabric)

Clever Children's Number
Matching Game (item: file folder)

Placemat (item: Plastic laminate)

Holder for anything (item: no sew)

Wall organizer (item: no sew)

Faux stained glass hanging candle holder (or planter) made out of recycled parachute fabric and the glass part of a light fixture.

Thanks to The Scrap Exchange for donating the use of the Make and Take Room and all of the supplies. Thanks also to the following Etsy stores for donating their time to The Scrap Exchange:

Cork and Cotton, Karen's Soaps, Metamorphasis, Rippa's Custom Silver, Opal Light Studio, Earthboar Jewelry, BellaMia Designs, Vintage Scraps and MegRNC.

We hope you like our creations!
