Craftland 2009

The Scrap Exchange, an 18 year old creative reuse center, and the North Carolina Triangle Etsy Street Team join together this holiday season to offer “Craftland: Handmade Goods by Local Artists” in the Green Gallery located in the reuse center of The Scrap Exchange. Craftland exists to provide customers and the local community access to sustainable gifts made from repurposed materials. The marketplace is open from October 16th-January 2nd. Items include stuffed animals made from tee-shirts, girl's skirts made from men's work shirts, metal sculptures made from typewriter and sewing machine parts, melted and fused glass items and much more! Many Etsy artists are featured including: ReVamped Creations, Nice Shirt Kid, Lucky Girl Trading, MegRNC, Fandragon, FlowerSoup, Janine Maves, and Donnie Wrights.

A huge thanks goes to Megan (MegRNC), Carolyn (Blue Cuddly), Jill (Orange Cat Art) and Tonya (ReVamped Creations) for all of their hard work in helping organize the 6th Annual Craftland.

Featured Seller: ReVamped Creations

Who are you?
Tonya Adams – ReVamped Creations

Where are you located?
Raleigh

What do you create?
Purses, totes and jewelry crafted from reclaimed materials.

What is your favorite place to visit in the Triangle?
In terms of my business, definitely the Scrap Exchange in Durham. They have the coolest fabric and upholstery samples for the cheapest prices! Not to mention all the other great things they sell there. Not business related, Edward McKay Used Books in Raleigh.

Where do you create?
I’m lucky enough to have a room in my home devoted to my sewing. It isn’t huge, especially since it doubles as a guest room (it has a futon), but there is plenty of room for me and my sewing machine.

Why did you choose your shop/company name?
I’m really focused on reusing materials in my work. It was hard to come up with the name. I wanted it to somehow convey what I did without being specific to purses or jewelry. My friend came up with ReVamped since it means ‘to remake or revise’.

What is you most popular item that you create?
Based on my etsy hits, comments from friends, and the reactions received at a recent craft fair, I’d have to say the pleated bags. Pleated bags seem to be popular in general this year. To me, they are pretty but can be used for practical purposes (to carry ALL your stuff) because they can be deceptively roomy inside.

How do you acquire new clients?
Through family and friends. This is a recent venture for me. I signed up with Etsy in March and so far all of my sales there have been to friends and family.
