Featured Seller: TurtleMommy

Who are you?

Where are you located?
Fayetteville, North Carolina

What do you create?
I create wonderful gifts for babies and toddlers.

What is your favorite place to visit in the "triangle"?
I'm new to the area, I've only been here a year and a half. But in Fayetteville, off of Ramsey St., there is a beautiful bike/walking trail that me and my husband and son like to take walks there.

When did you start creating?
I started creating shortly after my 8 month old son was born. Around June of this year.

What inspires you?
My son does! Almost everything I make/made has been for him first. I had picked a fairly new bedding collection for his room, so it didn't have all the cool stuff some of the other collections did. From then on I was determined to make whatever I wanted for him myself.

Why did you choose your shop name?
I choose Turtley Awesome Crafts because I fell in LOVE with turtles when I was still pregnant. My son's whole room is all about turtles and that's where I got my start! I thought it was a cute name!

Do you have any advice to share on how you have made your business grow?
Having support from my husband and family was always number one. If they didn't back me I don't think I would have the drive to create new things everyday. I also participate in many groups on Cafemom and I blog. I truely believe that interacting with moms about daily life stuff on Cafemom and blogspot has helped my business grow. It lets them know that I'm not just a robot that creates stuff just for the money, I'm a real person and I love what I do! I also have a Twitter account. Its like mini blogging, short and sweet!

What do you do when you are not creating?
I'm playing with my son, David. As of lately he's been a little mover and shaker, so I love to crawl around on the floor with him and teach him how to walk. We do stuff as a family when my husband gets home from work, like going on walks or taking a "Sunday drive" and explore Fayetteville and the surrounding areas.

Featured Seller: EmbraceableUrns & PhantasyCeramics

Who are you?

Where are you located?
Raeford, NC (near Fayetteville)
What do you create?
Pet urns & memorials and all kinds of other ceramics
What is your favorite place to visit in the "triangle"?
I dont have a favorite place to visit in the triangle.
Why did you choose your medium?
My mom used to do ceramics when I was a little girl. I still have some of the things she made me. I had always thought of myself as "uncreative" until about 6 years ago when my father passed away and I was looking for something to do. I actually started out creating porcelain dolls, but did not like having to sew. So, I started buying and painting plaster village houses from Wal-Mart and chose to move to ceramics to have more of a choice of things to create and paint.
What is your next project going to be?
Ceramic Tile Family Murals
Where do you create?
I do all my pouring, cleaning greenware and firing as well as glazing at my Mom's house. I paint other items with acrylics at my own house. My mom helps me create all of our items in some way.
What is you most popular item that you create?
From EmbraceableUrns, it is our Beloved Pet Dog/Cat Angel urns and they are popular because they are custom painted to resemble the actual pet. From PhantasyCeramics, most popular items are our Mystical items, dragons, wizards, as well as our holiday assortment - some of our dragons are so realistic and just beautiful. Our Holiday assortment is unique. Everything we make you can not buy in a store and every item we paint is OOAK, never two the same and all made in the USA!
What do you do when you are not creating?
Maintain my own websites, think up new ideas for new items, play with & take care of my 10 dogs.

Who are you?
Cinnamon & Spice Crafts

Where are you located?
Fayetteville, NC

What do you create?
Scrapbooks, greeting cards and party favors. My business partner Spice hand-crotchets a line of multiethnic “Pillow Kids

What is your favorite place to visit in the Triangle?
I am fairly new to the area, so I’ll stick with the place I’d most like to visit next, the Magic Wings Butterfly House in Durham.

What inspires you?
My kids, my heritage, the holidays…

Where do you create?
I have just created a crafting nook in my family room, so I can be close to the kiddies while I work.

What is your favorite place to sell your items?
In person because once a person is able to “see” and “feel” my scrapbooks and other items, they just can’t resist them! Seriously, I’m a people person, and love the high touch aspect of face-to-face interaction.

What types of things do you do to turn first time buyers into repeat clients?
We are creating scratch cards that we will include with a person’s purchase. The cards will offer a percentage off their next purchase from our shop. Will keep you posted on how well it’s working!
